What kind of difficulties do we help with?
At Cirencester Psychology we are specialists in the full range of common mental health problems people seek help for. Many of our clients come with symptoms such as anxiety or depression or simply feel they're stuck and cannot find a way forward. Other clients have been referred via their GP who has recommended that they get a specific type of therapy called CBT or EMDR. Yet, others might have previous experience with therapy or did find what they wanted in the NHS. Some would like to try one of the more specific therapies we offer. We see every type of person, of all ages and backgrounds. There is quite a lot of information on the website and it can get a bit confusing if you're not familiar with therapy and psychological interventions. You are more than welcome to contact us on 01453 840848 / 07484 250050 or via the contact form here and we will do our best to answer any questions you may have.
Why choose a Clinical Psychologist?
Therapy by qualified Clinical Psychologists is not the cheapest option you will find. Cost and quality are closely connected in mental health as in many other areas. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' is often true in the world of therapy and mental health. By choosing a professional with extensive NHS training chances are that you will be getting the right solution (and diagnosis/formulation) the first time around. This is not because non-psychologists are not good practitioners, but there is a wealth of training courses out there and this leads to uncertainty when it comes to the qualifications and skills of practitioners. Clinical Psychologists are trained in using psychological formulation when diagnosing and treating mental health difficulties, ranging from everyday problems such as poor sleep, stress and mild anxiety to the challenges a family can face following a brain injury or living with chronic pain. We are regulated by the British Psychological Society and registered by the HCPC and receive regular supervision. That is your guarantee for safe and effective practise.
The importance of identifying the root cause of psychological problems
Identifying the cause of the problem is the key to effective treatment and helps the client make sense of their difficulties. Many people come to the Cirencester Psychology Clinic (CPC) with previous experience of therapy, CBT or counselling which did not help them move forward or make the changes they were hoping for. In our experience this is often due to a failure to identify the root causes of the problem and sticking with a 'one size fits all' approach. Therapy is not just about following a specific model or therapy manual. Succesful therapy requires the skills and knowledge to switch between several models, designing effective interventions and adapting it to the specific circumstances of the individual. We help people, of all ages, to recover from psychological trauma and long-term conditions. Please click on a condition or difficulty below to learn how we might help you. Trauma and PTSD, Dissociation and DID, Stress and Return to Work (Including Employee Assistance Programme), Anxiety, Depression and Bereavement, Inner Child and Authentic Self, Medically Unexplained Symptoms and Functional Neurological Disorder. Psychological assessments and reports
At CPC we are specialists in assessing cognitive and intellectual functioning. We only use widely recognised psychological tests such as the Wechsler's Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) and the Children's version (WISC-V). We use a fixed price report so you know exactly how much a report will cost. Please refer to the assessment page.
We are registered providers for a number of health Insurance Companies and Employee Assistance Programmes, please get in touch to find out if we already have an agreement with your health insurance company or EAP.
